2024 Elim Syrah
In 2024, we ventured to the end of the world for harvest - literally! The grapes hail from Africa’s southern-most vineyard plots, in the windswept hills of Elim, where seashells lie scattered beneath the vines. Salty notes showcase proximity to the tempestuous coast, while whispers of herbs and fynbos mingle with juicy black fruit to craft a wine both distinctive and refined. 100% whole bunch, wild ferment and semi-carbonic techniques result it the perfect blend of edgy and
undeniably delicious. Awarded 4.5 Platters stars!
2024 Voor-Paardeberg Verdelho
In 2024, our ventures led us to new sites in the Voor-Paardeberg, yielding a vibrant, tropical verdelho — a distinctive counterpart to our crisp, cooler-climate 2023 vintage. Barrel-fermented and matured in older oak, this wine weaves flavours of zesty orange and stone fruit from the warmer sites, with a gentle sweep of lemon curd and vanilla shortbread on the finish. The cultivar's bright natural acidity completes a balanced, sophisticated expression of this crowd-pleasing cultivar. Awarded 4 Platters stars!
2023 Cape Agulhas Syrah
Sourced from the same blocks as 2022, the 2023 Cape Agulhas Syrah is a graceful, coastal expression with aromatic detail and fine structure. Notes of wild herbs, lavender, white pepper and olive lead into a supple palate of cherry, raspberry and blackberry, framed by silky tannins and subtle spice. Its savoury, briny thread brings energy and length, making it especially compelling at the table. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and gentle extraction allowed the fruit and site to speak clearly, while 50% whole bunch contributed added fragrance and structure. Ageing in older French oak brought polish to this light, elegant wine. Awarded 4 Platters stars!
2023 Groenekloof Verdelho
The vineyard, located on Papkuilsfontein in Groenekloof, spans just 0.3 hectares, planted in 2001 with low-yielding vines in red iron granite soils, 150m above sea level, 12km from the ocean. Grapes are handpicked, cooled overnight, and whole-bunch pressed into stainless steel for fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is racked into a single old 300L French oak barrel, naturally undergoing malolactic fermentation. A small amount of sulfur was added post-fermentation. After 10 months in barrel, it was bottled on December 21, 2023. Awarded 4 Platters stars!
2022 Cape Agulhas Syrah
Samesyn's Syrah grapes come from two blocks in the coastal region of Cape Agulhas. One is on a hilltop, facing northwest with 360-degree views of the farm; exposed to cooling ocean breezes, and the other faces northeast; sloping down towards the farm dam. Using 30% whole bunch, the grapes were handled gently throughout a 10-day fermentation and aged in neutral French oak to allow for the fullest expression of fruit and spice. Awarded 4 Platters stars!
